Final preparations underway for first marriage in Hexham House

The final preparations are underway for the first wedding to take place in the newly refurbished  Hexham House, which is set to be one of the finest register offices in the North of England.

On Friday 1st September Jo Bullivant and Paul Johnson will be tying the knot in the venue which has just undergone a major £1.5m restoration scheme to transform it into a beautiful new wedding venue for the town.

Jo said:    “ It was wonderful to discover that the month we were planning on getting married coincided with the opening of Hexham House. Although we now live in Newcastle, Paul  was born in Hexham so we wanted to get married somewhere in this part of Northumberland.    We felt that Hexham House really fills a gap in the market for an impressive and historic venue which is also affordable. It is definitely the most impressive  register office that we’ve ever seen.

“ We are absolutely over the moon with how the new venue looks and we’ve booked nearby Hexham Abbey for our reception and after party, so everything we need is close at hand, and it promises to be a really special day.”

The  Grade II  listed building has been sympathetically restored and refurbished by Northumberland County Council and now boasts  a stunning new register office, two wedding ceremony rooms and seven luxury self-catering holiday apartments complete with a beautiful bridal suite.

Husband to be, Paul said:

“  We’ve been watching with interest as the House has been transformed.  We were first invited to see it  back in January wearing hard hats and high vis jackets when it was just a building site, and we  re-visited it again recently when all the restoration  work was complete. The transformation has been absolutely amazing and it is great   to see new life being brought back into a building which has such a long history in the town.

“  We love that the attention to detail during the restoration  has been meticulous so that the true heritage of the house was  preserved.  Every floorboard was lifted, stripped and relaid and the original window frames have been restored and retained so it was a true labour of love.  We couldn’t be happier with how it looks and can’t wait for our big day. ”

Jo and Paul have friends and family coming from all over the UK and from the US and Ireland. The vast majority are staying in hotels in Hexham, with some guests taking the opportunity to stay longer to see the Tour of Britain cycle race before they head home. The bridal party will be staying in the new luxury apartments above Hexham House.
