Solar panels are set to be installed on two of the county’s main community fire stations to make them more energy efficient.
The project will generate significant day-to-day energy savings at West Hartford and Pegswood Stations with forecasts predicting income generation of more than £80,000 and energy savings of over £105,000 over the life of the scheme.
The schemes will benefit from Feed in Tariff which is government backed for 20 years over the lifetime of the project as well as the direct energy savings from utilising Solar PV.
Councillor Glen Sanderson, Cabinet member for Environment and Local Services, said: “We are always looking at innovative ways of saving money and generating new income streams.
“These panels will save a significant amount of money over their lifetime, with the savings able to be reinvested in our communities.”
