Parking problems have been smoothed over in Newbiggin thanks to an injection of council cash.
The overflow car park for the town’s sports and community centre was giving motorists a bumpy ride because of its crumbling surface and potholes.
Now the area has been resurfaced with 280 tonnes of tarmac and turned into an official car park, with 48 marked spaces, to serve the sports centre and library which recently moved there.
The resurfacing project was funded with £70,000 from Northumberland County Council’s Local Transport Plan and championed by County Councillor, Liz Simpson.
She said: “Parking spaces around the sports centre have been in short supply and the need has been greater than ever since the library service moved in.
“The new surface will help to ease the pressure on parking locally, improve the look and feel of the area, and help to protect people’s vehicles from damage. It’s a significant improvement on what we had before.
“Proper investment in our roads and car parks is essential to ensure that residents have a safe and enjoyable experience on our roads, and it’s fantastic to see the car park resurfaced.”
