Celebrate HiVis Fortnight with Northumberland Libraries

HiVis, a reading celebration, takes place from 6 June  to 19 June.  HiVis fortnight aims to highlight the importance of accessible libraries and reading.

We try to ensure our libraries and services are as easy as possible to access.  Featured below are some of the accessible library collections that are available:

Large Print Books

Using a font of at least 16 points in size, large print titles are perfect for people who have poor vision. Large print books can be borrowed for free and reserved in the same way as normal books. It is free to reserve a book.

Audio books

Audio books, or spoken word books, are available in many titles for adults and children, on CD and MP3 Playaway. They can be loaned for 3 weeks for free.

eAudio and eBooks

Choose from a wide selection of eBooks and eAudio from our digital library BorrowBox. The entire BorrowBox app is optimised to work with Apple's VoiceOver functionality. BorrowBox utilises the built-in screen reader to provide meaningful auditory descriptions of each on-screen element. This also includes an optimised eBook experience for visually impaired people. In other words the eBook can be read aloud by simply tapping the screen.
