Celebrate Empathy Day with Northumberland Libraries

Thursday 10th June is Empathy Day and this year the pandemic has shown us just how important it is that we understand what other people are going through, and how powerful it is when we look out for each other. Empathy Lab are calling for us to focus on other people’s feelings and perspectives and to put themselves in someone else’s shoes, and what better way to do this than through the power of reading. From specially selected empathy-rich books to a huge social media campaign challenging us all to #ReadForEmpathy, this year is all about helping young people learn more about empathy and how to put it into practice.

The 2021 Read for Empathy collection features 50 books for 4-16 year olds, with each book chosen to do a specific job in building young people’s empathy and to help expand children’s world view. Lot of books in this collection are availble to be borrowed from your local library.  Did you know you can reserve books from any of our libraries and get them sent to your library (in Northumberland) for free.  A number of the titles are also available from our digital library BorrowBox.

You can find out more about the different ways to get involved by visiting empathylab.uk, where you can also read some of the amazing Empathy Shorts; 500 word stories written by some of your favourite authors including Katya Balen and Matt Abbott.
