Drawing of Diagon Alley

Celebrate Harry Potter Book Night

We're excited to be celebrating the seventh annual Harry Potter Book Night on June 24.  This year’s magical theme is Diagon Alley and we’ll be inviting witches, wizards and muggles from across Northumberland to discover the secrets of its spellbinding places and shops.

Harry Potter books are available from your local library.  Did you know you can reserve books and get them sent to your local (Northumberland) library for free. Our digital library BorrowBox has a great selection of Harry Potter eBooks and eAudiobooks.  Titles include: A History of Magic, Quidditch Through the Ages, The Tales of Beedle the Bard and of course all the books in the Harry Potter series.

We want you to follow Harry on his first trip down Diagon Alley and join in with some magical crafts inspired by the amazing shops he discovers there! Due to COVID-19 restrictions all the fun will be taking place online this year. Choose a shop from Diagon Alley or a lesson from Hogwarts listed below, watch the activity video and then why not have a go yourself.

Make Diagon Alley

Harry Potter fans can also watch this video and find out how they can make their own Diagon Alley in a shoe box. You will need:
  • Shoebox
  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Colouring pens, pencils or paint
First you need to cut one of the short sides off your shoebox with a pair of scissors (Ask an adult if you need help doing this!).  Then decorate the inside of the box before you add the shops.  You might want to add bricks on the walls and cobbles on the floor!  Download the templates listed below and print them off to created your own Diagon Alley:
