Support for Mental and Emotional Health

Find support for mental and emotional health.

In Northumberland we follow a graduated response to Mental Health from early help and support to more specialist help following the Thrive Model.

The Thrive model is an integrated, person centred, and needs led approach to delivering mental health services for children, young people and their families. It conceptualises need in five categories; Thriving, Getting Advice and Signposting, Getting Help, Getting More Help and Getting Risk Support.

This pathway sets out the support that is available to assist children and young people (and their families) in Northumberland where unmet needs may be due to an underlying Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The pathway is based on the Thrive model (see explanation below) which has been adopted across Northumberland to ensure an appropriate level of support for identified needs.

The goal of this pathway is to ensure that children and young people gain appropriate support, are assessed and referred appropriately as needed.

The Thriving model - Circle cut into four sections - Getting advice, Getting help, Getting risk support, Getting more help

Thrive Support Model Explained:
  • THRIVING: All those children and young people who do not need individualised advice or support. This population is supported by universal services and minimal additional support is required. The support that is required is already readily available.
  • COPING:  This level of support is sufficient to minimise the impact of identified needs and provide reassurance to children, young people and their parents/carers. Early help and support is required to improve educational, social and emotional outcomes.
  • GETTING HELP: Children and young people who benefit from more specialist outcome-focused, evidence-based approach with clear aims designed to address specific areas of need.
  • GETTING MORE HELP: Children and young people who would benefit from a diagnostic assessment and specialist assistance where there is evidence of significant need in one or several areas.
