Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

What is a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment?

A pharmaceutical needs assessment (PNA) describes the health needs of the population, current pharmaceutical services provision and any gaps in that provision. The purpose of the PNA is to identify health needs which could be met by services commissioned from community pharmacies, and to match these against the services currently provided, identifying any gaps. NHS England will use the PNA to determine whether applications for additional NHS pharmacy contracts would fill these gaps.
