Special Collections
also known as: Film Collection, Libraries.
This page provides information about the special collections that are based at Morpeth library.
The County Library Service has a number of
special collections housed at Morpeth Library which are available
for use by individual users and by groups. They include drama,
music, literature, film and poetry, as well as a large local
studies collection. The music and drama collections were damaged by
flooding in 2008 and are currently unavailable. It is possible to
request items and we will try to obtain them from elsewhere. Part
of the Local Studies, Literature and Poetry Library collections
were also damaged but the main collections on the library first
floor remain intact. It is hoped to reinstate the collections at
Morpeth library in the future.
Film Collection
The Film Collection is an impressive
collection of books covering all aspects of cinema. It comprises
over 3,000 titles, ranging from film star biographies, to the
history of cinema, studies of film genres, directors,
cinematography and academic analysis of film. The books are
available for loan as part of the library's normal stock.
The Northern Poetry Library is the largest
collection of contemporary poetry in England outside London, with
15,000 volumes of contemporary British poetry. North Eastern poets
are particularly well represented and the library holds many first
editions, signed copies and runs of poetry periodicals.
