The Council is to provide a free shuttle bus to assist local residents following the closure of the Beaconhill footbridge in Cramlington.
A free shuttle service will begin around 4 March, subject to tenders from local bus and taxi operators. It will operate at the following times:
· 9:30 – 10:30 two return services
· 14:30 – 15:00 one return service
· 16:30 – 17:00 one return service
The service will be from Longridge Way (from garage blocks near one end of the closed footbridge) to bus stops on Forum Way (near the library). The point at Longridge Way will be marked with a temporary shuttle stop marker and appropriate timetable. The vehicles will be accessible.
The new service is in response to concerns from local people, especially those with mobility problems, and follows discussions with local councillors.
The footbridge bridge will remain closed for the foreseeable future in the interest of safety as it is no longer serviceable.
A temporary pedestrian and cycle diversion route will be maintained during this period.
The council apologises for any inconvenience resulting from this closure.
