Northumberland County Council has won the prestigious gold award for ‘Best use of Social Media’ at the North East CIPR PRide Awards.
The council now uses social media to communicate and engage with Northumberland residents and has attracted more than 36,000 people across its social media platforms.
The county was also a finalist in the best public sector campaign category for its work promoting the Northumberland Residents Festival.
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Pride Awards, sponsored nationally by Precise, PRWeek and RedBrand, receive over 1,000 entries from freelancers, consultancies and in-house teams across twelve UK regions and nations. The prestigious awards are judged by a panel of industry experts.
CIPR CEO, Jane Wilson MCIPR, commented: “The North East CIPR PRide Awards celebrate the best PR and communications campaigns and teams from across the region. The sheer number of high quality entries received this year, especially when things are still pretty tough out there economically, is testament to a thriving regional industry. The CIPR PRide Awards represent the best, most creative and most effective public relations work across the UK and to win an award is a great achievement.”
Communications service manager Ross Wigham said: “Social media is now a key part of the council’s communications with local people and visitors to Northumberland. We’ve found that more and more residents are signing up to receive information in this way so it’s really pleasing to have our work recognised.
“We’ve also had lots of positive feedback from residents about our efforts on sites like Facebook and Twitter especially when people need information fast or when they’re on the move.”
