Ring in the Paralympics

20 August 2012 ( Archived )

Residents from the Morpeth area of Northumberland are being asked to get involved and help launch the London 2012 Paralympic Games on Wednesday 29 August at 12.20p.m.

Following on from the success of the “All the bells” which was held nationally for the launch of the Olympics, inspired by Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed, there will be a ringing of hand bells in Morpeth's Market Place.

The ringing will last for five minutes and all are welcome. Bells will be provided but participants are asked to bring their own bells if you have one available. Organisers are hoping that as many people with disabilities as possible will join in the fun.

Members of all local sports clubs are invited to come along and assist any individuals that may need help. Organised by Richard Major, local hand bell ringer and supported by Northumberland County Council, it is an opportunity for all individuals to make the Paralympics as memorable as possible.

Individuals wishing to take part are asked to assemble at the area by the post boxes near the building society in Morpeth town centre’s market place by 12:10p.m to allow distribution of bells ready to start by 12:20p.m.
