With almost all of this year’s results in for the county’s schools and academies, early indications are that once again the performance has improved on previous years.

More than 99 per cent of students attained at least one A level. The average point score per pupil increased by three per cent compared to results in 2011 and the average point score by entry was up by one per cent.

Councillor Lesley Rickerby, executive member for children and young people, said: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to the students. They thoroughly deserve their results after years’ of study and hard work. I am delighted that our schools and academies continue to provide high quality education for our children and young people.

“During the Olympic Games we heard many athletes thank their parents for the support they had received. I would like to thank the parents and the teachers for the support they have given to our young people.”
