Ronnie Wright, Stephen Hanley and Lindsay Bowlins completed a distance learning course from The Fire Brigade Union Learning Centre earlier this month they were presented with Level Two Equality and Diversity certificates.

The course is designed to develop knowledge of anti-discrimination laws relating to equality and diversity. The principles of the programme apply to all walks of life, in and out of work, and teaching can be tailored to be particularly relevant to situations that firefighters face as part of their varied role.

Completed by firefighters from all over the country, the FBU Learning Centre course runs in partnership with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service headquarters in West Hartford, Cramlington.

Firefighter Ronnie Wright said: “This was a very enjoyable and useful course which I can use to better understand both workplace and social differences within the county.”

Chief Fire Officer, Alex Bennett, said: “Learning and development is important to our officers to equip them with the skills and confidence that they need to perform their duties in a wide range of constantly changing situations.”
