Local Government changed significantly earlier this year with
the introduction of the unitary County Council in April. The new
local government landscape provides a stronger role for town and
parish councils in Northumberland and, as from June this year, town
and parish councils have been in place for the whole of
Northumberland for the first time. This increasing role was
recognised in preparations for the local government changes and the
Northumberland Charter for Local Councils was developed by the
County Council and the Northumberland Association of Local Councils
(NALC) in consultation with town and parish councils
All council services can be accessed via the County Council’s
website, by phone on 0845 600 6400, at one of Northumberland
Information Centres listed below, or by email at ask@Northumberland.gov.uk.

All service requests and complaints can be dealt with through
these routes. However, there’s often a need for Parish Councillors
or Clerks to speak to service specialists about wider issues and a
range of contacts is provided in the Parish Council Contacts
Leaflet.
