What is the Northumberland
County Council Records Management Service?
The Records Management Service (formerly the
Modern Records Service) serves two main functions.
- It is a policy and advisory service on the efficient and
effective management of information and
records, in paper and electronic format.
- It also operates the Woodhorn commercial records storage and
retrieval service.
Where is the
Records Management Service based?
The Records Management Service is located
within the Woodhorn Museum, near Ashington in south-east
Northumberland.

Service is situated in the new “Cutter” building at the rear of the
site.
The Records Management Service is open Monday
to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We are closed on Bank
Holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The opening hours of Northumberland Archives are
Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (for more

The Woodhorn Museum is a secure site with 24/7
CCTV and security service surveillance. All customers
of the Records Management Service must sign in at the security
building before making their way to the rear of “The Cutter”
building. The security building is located next to the main
visitor car park and is labelled “Administration Block” on the
Woodhorn
site map. Customers should read the full
instructions for WDSRS visitors document, before arriving on
site.
The Records Management Service has a dedicated
parking space at the rear of “The Cutter” building, indicated on
the map of the
Woodhorn site. Customers will be directed to this
parking space upon their arrival at Woodhorn.
There is no car parking charge
for customers of the Records Management Service.
Please ensure that you inform the Customer Host at the “Welcome
Hut” that you have an appointment with the Records Management
Service.
