Outline of Corporate Records and Information Management
Programme
The Corporate Records and Information
Management Programme forms part of the Records and
Information Management Policy and the Records and
Information Management Strategy.
The Corporate Records and Information
Management Programme aims to set up a programme of work which will
ensure a corporate approach to the management of records within
Northumberland County Council and to amalgamate the records and
processes from the former six district councils within the county
of Northumberland. The programme will be rolled out gradually
by service area and will be fully supported by Members and senior
management.
The programme will consist of:
- The identification of Records and Information
Management Champions within each Directorate and
Division.
- Setting up a Records and Information
Management Group to prepare policies and the records
management work programme.
- Creating process maps of each business
unit.
- A Survey of records and information that are
created and stored within each service area.
Creating an ‘Information Asset Register’.
- Appraising records for business, evidential
and historical value.
- Preparing a Retention and Disposal Policy and
Schedule for the new unitary authority.
- Producing a corporate business classification
system for the storage and retrieval of records and
information.
- Creating a corporate FilePlan for each
service area within NCC.
- Training in Records Management techniques to
ensure a corporate approach to the creation, storage
and disposal of records and information within
NCC.
