Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing
Policy
Following a formal consultation on a draft
policy for hackney carriage and private hire licensing which was
considered and endorsed by the Council’s Licensing and Regulatory
Committee on 4th December 2009, the new Northumberland
County Council Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy
will come into effect from 1st October 2010.
The policy has been developed following the
reorganisation of local government in Northumberland, with the
former districts and borough councils of Alnwick, Berwick, Blyth,
Castle Morpeth, Tynedale and Wansbeck merging with Northumberland
County Council. This resulted in the County having six zones
and six different sets of terms and conditions for Hackney Carriage
vehicles and a separate set for Private Hire.
The intention of the policy is to set out in a
fair and transparent manner, how the Council intends to harmonise
the terms and conditions across Northumberland and deal with the
licensing of Hackney Carriages and Private Hire.
