Business Continuity
Northumberland County Council and all other Local Authorities in
the United Kingdom are required to continue delivering key services
to the community during emergencies and business
interruptions. Local Authorities must also promote the value
of business continuity to businesses and voluntary organisations
within the local community.
Business Continuity Management (BCM) is a management process
through which potential threats to an organisation and the impacts
to business operations those threats, if realised, might cause are
identified. This safeguards the interests of its key
stakeholders, reputation and brand.
The benefits of Business Continuity to an organisation are that
it:
- Is able to identify the impacts of an operational
disruption;
- Has in place arrangements and procedures to allow it to
continue it’s business during a disruption ;
- Maintains an ability to manage uninsurable risks;
- Encourages staff to have a better understanding of how the
organisation operates;
- Is able to validate their arrangements and procedures through a
testing and exercising programme;
Please see the attached leaflet for further information and
guidance on how to implement a business continuity programme and
how to develop a Business Continuity Plan.
