Local Development Scheme
The Council is required to prepare a Local Development Framework (LDF) which is a set
of planning documents that contains the Council's policies and
proposals for how its area will be developed in the
future.
The Local Development Scheme (LDS) is a
public statement detailing which documents will make up the
Local Development Framework and when they will be produced.
What documents will be produced?
The Local Development Scheme proposes the
production of the following planning documents over the next few

The priority for the Council will be the production of the
Core Strategy in order to provide the vision, objectives and high
level planning framework for Northumberland.
When will the documents be produced?
Due to delays in the preparation of the Core Strategy, a number
of the proposed dates for document preparation in the Local
Development Scheme are out of date. More up-to-date information on

Status of the Local Development Scheme
The first Local Development Scheme for
Northumberland County Council was submitted to the Secretary of
State for consideration on 23 December 2008 and came into effect on
5 February 2009. This version of the Local Development Scheme was
supeseded after a revised Local Development Scheme was adopted
by the Council on 4 November 2009. The original and revised Local
