Procurement
Corporate Procurement is at the heart of
everything the Council does and helps to deliver efficient and
effective procurement of goods and services and ensures a balance
between achieving efficiency savings and the effective social,
economic and environmental well-being goals to which the Council is
committed.
The new unitary Council operates a centralised
approach to the procurement of all goods and services and we are
committed to developing and delivering Best Value through strategic
procurement and setting policy.
In support of this, we work to the highest
professional standards and following a rigorous assessment against
the Government Standard in Customer Service Excellence, Corporate
Procurement has achieved this prestigious
award.
Responsible for the delivery of procurement
advice across the authority, we have a duty to include equality in
procurement practices and aim to treat all tenderers, contractors
and partners equally adopting a co-ordinated and structured
approach to sustainable procurement.
Supporting the Local
Economy
We support the local economy providing advice and guidance to
local businesses, packaging our contracts where appropriate, to
ensure that smaller and local businesses are not excluded.
The Council in conjunction with the North East Chamber of
Commerce sponsors a project called the Procurement Centre which
aims to challenge both the public and private sector to work
together to make the most of business opportunities and unlock the
potential for businesses and social enterprises across South East
Northumberland to win tenders and be considered for contracts.

the creation of sustainable, collaborative relationships with
suppliers in the public, private, social enterprise and voluntary
sectors to deliver services, carry out major projects or acquire
supplies and equipment
The Council is committed to sustainable
procurement encompassing the whole life costs of the project,
ensuring that procurement activity contributes positively towards
sustainable development and improves the social, economic and
