Borrowing Books, CDs, DVDs
also known as: Lending, Libraries.
This page tells you how to borrow items from your local library branch.
Once you have joined the library and received your
library card you may use it at any Northumberland branch library or mobile library to borrow up to a total of 20
items at any one time - this can be any combination of books, CDs,
DVDs or Spoken Word material.
Loan Periods
- 3 weeks for books
- 2 weeks for CDs
- 1 week for DVDs and Magazines
- 1 day for some DVD feature films
If you wish to keep borrowed items for longer
you can usually renew them - provided that no one else has
requested them. Renewing CDs, DVDs and Videos will attract an
additional loan charge. Renewals can be made online through
the Library Catalogue, using your
membership number and PIN, or by ringing 0845
600 6401.
Fees & Charges
There is no charge for borrowing books but there are a variety
of rental charges for borrowing other things.
Charges are also made if you bring books back late. You will
normally be asked to pay a small fine or a rehire charge for CDs
and DVDs
When an adult ( 16 years and over) borrows a book or spoken word
item from the children's library on an adult ticket and keeps that
item overdue, the fine is calculated and charged at the adult
rate. We recommend that if you borrow items for your children
you enrol them in the library to have their own library card.
