This page explains the range of different services Northumberland libraries offer to businesses.

Business Information Support

A service offered by Northumberland Libraries. Our aim is to offer a comprehensive information service to businesses in Northumberland utilising some of our excellent resources and knowledgeable staff. What we can offer you

 

Business start ups – ideas & opportunities

Business Information Support has factsheets on almost 700 business opportunities. They are aimed at anyone who has an idea and wants to know the key factors to consider when starting up in that field of business. Alternatively, anyone wanting to start up in business but looking for inspiration will find the huge range of Business Opportunity Factsheets invaluable.

 

The coverage is diverse, from setting up as a Chiropodist, Solicitor, or Travel Agent, to running a Coffee Shop, becoming a Wheelie Bin Cleaner, Dog Trainer or Fashion Model.

Each Business Opportunity Factsheet examines the key issues including, skills & qualifications required, start up costs, legal issues, the current market, identifying competitors, and finding customers. The fact sheets are supplied through the COBRA (Complete Business Reference Advisor) business package, are updated on a regular basis and can be delivered to your desktop in PDF format.

 

Business start ups - practical information

Business Information Support has over 400 factsheets that can help with many of the practical issues that arise when running a small business.

The factsheets cover everything from Writing a Business Plan, Developing a Marketing Strategy, & Designing a Business Logo, to Buying Second Hand Office Equipment or Filing an Online Tax Return.

Company financial information

At Business Information Support we can supply detailed financial information on companies in the UK and Ireland. Detailed accounts are available for each company, including information on credit scores, financial trends and profitability.

 

Director searches

These reports can inform you who holds directorship in a particular company. Directors can be searched by name, company, geographical area and many more criteria. The Director Reports can give a detailed breakdown of an individual’s involvement in a company as well as full contact details such as address and telephone number. This information can be mailed direct to your desktop.

 

Contracts and tenders

At Business Information Support we can supply up to date information from Tenders Electronic Daily on public contracts and tenders for the supply of goods and services to UK local, national and regional government procurement programmes. It is also possible to search for public contracts and tenders throughout Europe.

 

Mailing lists

At Business Information Support   we can supply bespoke mailing lists for marketing projects. For example if you wanted to target all Advertising Agencies in London or all companies within the postcode NE61 we could supply you a list of contacts in a mailing list format. Lists can be prepared using many criteria including town, companies with a specific turnover, a particular industry sector and number of employees..

At Business Information Support we have access to Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and a large range of Government Reports. We also have access to other legal information on employment law and health and safety.

 

Books and leaflets

Business Information Support is part of Northumberland Libraries therefore we have a comprehensive range of books on business and management. Everything from recruitment, business plans, e-commerce, project management, health & safety, staff training, and marketing.

We also stock business information leaflets from organisations including Business Link, DTI and Shell Livewire. Check out what books we have in stock through our online library catalogue.

 

Statistics

We have general statistical information from the 2001 Census, mid year estimates for recent years as well as publications from the Office of National Statistics such as Regional Trends, Family Spending Survey, Social Trends and Annual Abstracts of Statistics.
