Due to local government reorganisation in Northumberland work to
prepare the Minerals and Waste Development
Framework has now ceased.
The new Northumberland Council will now instead prepare a
county-wide Local Development Framework (LDF) which
will, amongst other things, contain the new council's policies in
relation to minerals and waste within the Core Strategy Development Plan Document and
Delivery Development Plan Document. This will replace the existing
Minerals Local Plan and Waste
Local Plan.

Examination
Following the submission of the Core Strategy, Development
Control Framework and Site Allocations Supplementary Planning
Document for Examination on 29 June 2007, a Pre-Examination Meeting
for the Core Strategy was held on 27 November 2007. The notes of
the Pre-Examination Meeting can be viewed by clicking on the link
below:
At the Pre-Examination Meeting the Planning Inspector appointed
to examine the documents raised a number of issues with regards to
the soundness of the documents. These matters were considered
further at an Exploratory Meeting on 4 January 2008. The Inspector
raised specific concerns with the evidence base upon which the
strategy for coal in the documents was based and the local
distinctiveness of the proposed policies in the Development Control
Framework document. As a result of the issues raised by the
Inspector, Northumberland County Council took the decision to
withdrawn the three Development Plan Documents from Examination.
The report seeking the withdrawal of the documents and the letter
from the Secretary of State confirming their withdrawal can be
