Northumberland Shoppers' Permit

A new countywide Northumberland Shoppers' Permit was introduced on 1 May 2012 and allows residents with the permit to park free of charge in designated car parks during certain times.

The scheme will be as follows:

  • A maximum of 2 permits per household with 1 vehicle registration on each.
  • Permits will be charged at £15 each.  The same charge will apply to amendments and replacements.
  • Permits will be valid for a period of 2 years.
  • The permit will only be valid in the following car parks:
Alnwick - Greenwell Road, Dispensary Street and Roxburgh Place
Berwick - Castlegate, Parade and Quayside
Hexham - Loosing Hill and Wentworth
Morpeth - Stanley Terrace North, Stanley Terrace South, Newmarket East and Newmarket West.
  • Permits will be valid during the hours of 9am to 11am and 3pm to 6pm, Monday to Saturday and all day on Bank Holidays subject to normal time limits in car parks.
  • The scheme is open to residents of Northumberland and all applicants must prove vehicle ownership or provide evidence if using leased or company cars.
  • If you change your car you must return the old permit and reapply for a replacement, submitting evidence of the new vehicle details. Amendments and replacements will be charged at £15 per permit.

Former Morpeth Shoppers' Permit

The Morpeth Shoppers Permit scheme (formerly known as the free Morpeth Residents Parking Permit) has been withdrawn. The scheme was replaced on 1st May 2012 by the new countywide scheme for all Northumberland Residents.

Please Note: Should you decide not to purchase a new Northumberland Shoppers Permit then you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) if you park and continue to display your old Morpeth Permit after the end of May 2012.
