New registration scheme for bay users at
Newbiggin-by-the-sea
A new ‘free’ registration scheme is set to
make the bay at Newbiggin-by-the-sea safer and more enjoyable for
all users.
Northumberland County Council is introducing
the new scheme for anyone launching a craft or using any type of
vehicle in Newbiggin Bay.
The scheme will take effect from 1st April
2012 and aims to ensure that the beach and the bay are used in a
safe and responsible way by all users.
The registration scheme has the support of the
town council and local residents and will include a set of terms
and conditions. It also breaks the bay up into zones for the
purpose of users of mechanically propelled craft.
Anyone who uses a vehicle to collect coal from
the beach or to launch a boat or personal watercraft such as a jet
ski, will have to register. Local boat and sailing clubs, and
commercial fishermen, have already signed up to the scheme and will
be displaying their registration.
