All about the CHSWG (Children's Services Working Group)

What is the Children’s Hearing Services Working Group (CHSWG)?

The Northumberland CHSWG is a group of parents and professionals who meet three times a year to reflect on and co ordinate the best services possible for children with a hearing loss across Northumberland.  The professionals who attend the meetings are all those who are involved in the identification, diagnosis and management of children with hearing needs including those who provide ongoing help and support for families.  The group is always looking for feedback from parents and families.

What happens at a meeting?

The meetings are a forum where parents and professionals can discuss the service that is being provided to children with a hearing loss and their families.  By ‘the service’ we mean everything that is provided from the neonatal screening test through to children leaving school.  This involves looking at what is provided by health, education and social care and discussing if things could be done any better.

How often does the group meet?

The group meets three times a year, usually at Hepscott Park near Morpeth.  The meetings last for around 1 ½hours, and the timings vary to try and accommodate all the members.

How do I contact CHSWG?

The Chair of the group is Nicola Taylor, Team Leader (Hearing Impairment) with the Sensory Support Service.  She can be contacted by telephone on 01670 534313 or via e mail Nicola.taylor@northumberland.gov.uk.
