It's FREE to join the library and it's FREE to borrow and
reserve books and audiobooks. There are small charges to borrow
items such as DVDs. You can currently join the library by
downloading a library membership form and taking it to your local
If you are over 16 years old all you need to do is fill in a
Library Membership form and show identification giving proof of
your name and address, such as a bill or your driver's licence.
Under 16s need to get a Library Membership form countersigned by
a parent or guardian.
We recommend that children join the library instead of borrowing
books on their parents' cards to avoid being charged at an adult
rate for fees such as late returns.
Northumberland Libraries provide childminder or playgroup leader
cards. These cards mean that you can borrow books on behalf of the
children in your care. Childminders need to show proof of

There is no charge for borrowing books or audiobooks, but there
are rental charges for borrowing other items. Charges are made if
you return items late. Children's items borrowed on an adult ticket
are charged at the adult overdue rate. Concessionary rates apply to
some library charges.
