A Practical Resource
Welcome to the homepage of SRE in Northumberland. This
service aims to support teachers and professional educators to
deliver excellent, high quality SRE for all children and young
people in Northumberland.
Purpose of this resource
This resource will enable schools, teachers and
governors across Northumberland to further develop sex and
relationship education in schools.
It provides Northumberland with:
• A consistent, evidence-based
approach to the delivery of SRE, supporting schools to build on
what they already deliver in line with best practice;
• The means to provide good quality
SRE to all children and young people;
• A programme of study that is
cohesive and spirals from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 4
The resource includes the following

• Suggested schemes of work from
Foundation stage to Year 11 with signposts to resources which are
available from the Health Improvement Resource Centre
• Suggestions for improvements to
assessment, monitoring and evaluation of SRE

of case studies illustrating a range of approaches to SRE across
