Schools Privacy Notice
Under the Data Protection Act, all schools,
Alternative Provision settings, Pupil Referral Units and Early
Years settings must issue a Privacy Notice to parents/guardians.
This is to indicate what level of personal information is collected
about their children and for what purposes it is used.
The Department for Education issue a template
to assist you with this task and it also draws attention to those
organisations (Local Authority and Department for Education) to
whom it is a statutory requirement for the establishment to pass
certain personal data.
A Privacy Notice has to be issued to all new
starters at any of the above establishments. However there is no
requirement for them to be re-issued to existing pupils and
children on an annual basis, provided that any changes are updated
on the establishment and /or local authority website. We would
encourage all establishments to set up a section of their website
to hold this information, and to record any amendments to their
Privacy Notice here. This will help to reduce re-issuing the notice
to all parents.
The current template from the DFE is on the
bottom right of this page for you to download. Please amend
appropriately for your establishment and add any agencies that you
are currently sharing data with. It is advisable to have a copy of
this on your website.
