Ponteland applications to be heard by planning committee

Three major planning applications for Ponteland are due to be considered by Northumberland County Council’s strategic planning committee at its meeting at 1pm on Wednesday 15 March 2017 at County Hall in Morpeth.

The applications are for new schools and a leisure centre on the existing leisure centre site, 400 new homes on land west of Cheviot View and a new Garden Village on land north and west of Darras Hall..

The schools and leisure application is from the county council and would see demolition of the existing leisure centre and replacement with a new leisure centre, library, primary school and secondary school

The Banks Property application for land west of Cheviot View is for outline planning permission for construction of 400 residential dwellings, associated roads, paths, car parking, drainage and landscaping

The application by Lugano Dissington Estate Limited for land north and west of Darras Hall has two parts.  The first is an outline application for an exemplar Garden Village comprising up to 2,000 dwellings, and space / facilities for employment, commercial, agricultural and leisure uses, and associated infrastructure.  The second part of a full application for planning permission for strategic flood alleviation measures and demolition of a small number of buildings.

The committee reports are available on the council’s website www.northumberland.gov.uk and can be found by clicking on ‘Meetings’ on the homepage and then selecting the relevant strategic planning committee.  

Those who have submitted a written comment on an application have a right to ask to speak about it at the meeting.  If you wish to speak you must register your request by emailing the council’s democratic services team on democraticservices@northumberland.gov.uk or by phoning 01670 622614.    You should register as soon as possible, and at the latest by the deadline of 12 noon the working day before the committee meeting, i.e.Tuesday 14th March.  

There is a total of five minutes for objectors to speak on each application and a total of five minutes for supporters. If more than one person registers to speak in either of these slots you will need to share the five minutes, or agree on a spokesperson.  

Presentations can only be verbal and photographs/ presentation equipment are not permitted. The council’s public speaking protocol is available on its website.
