Hundreds flock to see County Hall plans

Hundreds of people visited County Hall to see proposals for the future of the site.
 
The drop-in session allowed developers to explain their proposals for the redevelopment of the County Hall, Loansdean and Merley Croft sites.

The site is being redeveloped to provide a new first school, with proposals for up to 200 family homes and a mix of retail, food and drink uses.
 
The proposed development includes:
 
  • A detailed planning application will be submitted by Northumberland County Council for a new first school to replace the current school at Goosehill, this will be located to the front of the County Hall site opposite the new commercial development.
  • Outline Planning Application for Residential Development. Housebuilder Persona is seeking to provide up to 200 quality family homes, comprising 3, 4 and 5 bed dwellings within landscaped parkland on the County Hall site, with new and improved footpaths and landscaping.
  • Detailed Planning Application for Commercial Development. Maple Grove Developments proposals will include a new supermarket, smaller retail units, cafe/restaurant and a pub.
Council leader Grant Davey said: “This was a great opportunity for local residents to come along and see proposals for the current County Hall site.
 
“There are a number of developments put forward for the site and we want people to be kept abreast of what is proposed and let the consultants know what they think.”
