The Highway authority is a statutory Consul tee of the planning process.

 

New Development

Provide Highway advice on planning applications & pre-planning enquiries.

Where a residential development of 100 dwellings or more is proposed, a full Transport Assessment (TA) will be required. Click here to view the TA Scoping Check List

For developments of 50 dwellings or more, a Transport Statement will be expected.

In all cases, a Travel Plan or Travel Plan Framework should accompany the Transport Reports.

 

New Roads

Negotiate & agree new road proposals for adoption as part of the section 38 of the Highways Act 1980.

 

Negotiate, agree & manage highway improvement works required by new development, as part of planning process section 278 of the Highways Act 1980

Extraordinary Maintenance Due to Development

Highway maintenance agreements required as part of planning process. (Section 59 of Highways Act 1980)

 

Vehicular crossing/ Vehicular access

 

Arrange the processing & supervision of vehicular crossing/ dropped kerbs as part of section 184 of Highways Act 1980.

Stopping up or Extinguishment of Highway

Section 116 of Highways Act 1980.

 

HGV Operators Licenses

Comment on operators licenses for Heavy Goods Vehicles.

 

How to apply to install a dropped kerb/ Vehicular Crossing

To apply to install a vehicular crossing on an unclassified (U road), a letter of intent should be sent to Highways Development Management. Also include a site plan showing current site & how site will look once proposed works have been completed. Please include dimensions.

 

A supervision fee will be charged based on the individual access. No fees are charged unless works are undertaken by applicant.
