Council Tax - Banding Appeals
also known as: Appeals, Valuation office.
You can appeal to the Valuation office if you think your council tax banding is wrong
If you live in a property in Northumberland it is likely you
will need to pay Council Tax. This is also the case if you own a
property that no one lives in.
Council Tax helps provide many services provided by
Northumberland County Council as well as the police and fire
service. These include street lighting, schools, libraries and
social care.
Council Tax is based on the value of your property. The
Valuation Office places each property into one of 8 Council Tax
bands. They are based on the value of properties on 1st April 1991
and NOT what a property is worth today..
Band A Up to £40 000
Band B £40 001 - £52 000
Band C £52 001 - £68 000
Band D £68 001 - £88 000
Band E £88 001 - £120 000
Band F £120 001 - £160 000
Band G £160 001 - £320 000
Band H Over £320 000
You can check the band of your property online by clicking here.

- You have become a new council taxpayer for a property and
you disagree with the entry in the Banding List.
- If you think there has been a material reduction in the value
of the property.
