A consultation about future arrangements for daytime support for
older people ended on 20 August 2009. The consultation
document explained the proposal to offer older people who need
support to get out of the house “personal budgets” which they can
use to pay for any extra help they need to take part in ordinary
community activities, and to close seven general-purpose day care
centres for older people operated by the Council, while retaining
specialist day care centres for older people with dementia, and
continuing to fund a range of independent sector day services.
The Council's Executive and the full Council will be considering
the results of this consultation at special meetings on 17
September 2009. The report
to the Executive discusses the response to the consultation in
detail, and recommends a revised option which takes account of many
of the points which were raised. (This text includes a
correction to a minor error in the version sent to Area Committees
and the Community Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which
incorrectly in Appendix 2 described Greenholme Day Care Centre as
being open for four days a week rather than five.)
The wider set of changes in adult care which these proposals
form part of is explained on
our Putting People First pages.
