Northumberland Tenants Voice
About the Northumberland Tenants panel
Northumberland Tenants Voice is a group of
tenants from the Local Authority and key Social Housing Partners,
brought together to provide, for the first time in the County a
multi-organisation tenants panel to consider strategic housing
issues that impact on tenants.
Their role will include responding to
government and other consultation documents, discussing key themes
which affect tenants, such as welfare reform and supporting the
council in developing benchmarking strategies.
The role and scope of the panel was
established using a steering group of tenants from the Social
Housing Partners and supported by TPAS (Tenant Panel Advisory
Service). The development of the group began in March 2011 with
officers and appointment of the steering group. Following the hard
work and dedication of the steering group the panel was established
in November 2011.
The activity is jointly funded by the Local
Authority and the constituent organisations and is the first of its
kind in the country. There has been significant interest from
the Tenant Participation Advisory Service in the group and they
have indicated a desire to be involved in an independent evaluation
of the group after it has been running for a year.
Meetings are quarterly and the location of
each meeting is rotated around the county and partners
buildings.
Training and development is being facilitated
through the council with assistance in training resources shared
with partners.
